Mysterium Fidei: Journal of Asian Empirical Theology is a peer-reviewed international academic journal rooted in the Catholic theological tradition, committed to advancing empirical theological reflection within Asian socio-cultural contexts. It provides a scholarly forum for Catholic and other Christian or interreligious scholars to engage theology with lived experience, contextual realities, and contemporary human concerns.
The journal focuses on how faith and religious experience intersect with daily life, exploring the theological significance of personal and communal practices, especially through empirical observation and interpretation. It seeks to foster dialogue between theology and fields such as culture, science, society, and spirituality.
Scope
Mysterium Fidei: Journal of Asian Empirical Theology is an open access, double-blind peer-reviewed journal dedicated to publishing empirical research on Catholic and Christian theological practices in Asia.
The journal welcomes original research articles that:
- Integrate theological reflection with empirical methods such as in-depth interviews, ethnography, surveys, participant observation, and documentary analysis;
- Employ historical, critical, and hermeneutical approaches in analyzing how theological meaning is constructed and lived;
- Explore how individuals and communities experience, express, and respond to the mystery of God in concrete cultural, religious, and ecclesial settings;
- Address core theological questions such as:
“How do people speak of God?” and
“How is God spoken to people?”
Interdisciplinary perspectives from theology, religious studies, anthropology, sociology, and cultural studies are encouraged to enrich theological analysis grounded in empirical realities.
